Why is Bitcoin moving? A living read of Bitcoin through market regime, macro pressure, real interest rates, capital rotation and geopolitics — with the relationships Apex has actually tested on Bitcoin, including the ones that failed.
Bitcoin is not one thing. In calm markets it has traded like money — alongside gold; in stress it has traded like a technology stock. Which of the two it is today is the question this page answers, from the same sources the Apex product reads.

Why is Bitcoin moving today?
RISK-ON, RATES RISINGEquities rose while long Treasuries fell — growth is being bought and rates are not the brake.
BTC -1.00 % vs Nasdaq +0.67 % → crypto did not follow equities today.
Macro headwind, elevated pressure, selective capital rotation.
The layers behind the read
MACRO · HEADWINDMacro conditions, taken together, are a headwind for risk assets.
Six macro inputs read together — real rates, long yields, inflation, policy expectations, the dollar, financial conditions. The direction is public; the evidence lines are for members.
WORLD · PRESSURED, NOT CONFIRMED RISK-OFFGLOBAL PRESSURE IS ELEVATED
Rates are restrictive (10-year 4.94 %, CPI 3.4 %), energy supply risk is active, market whiplash is quiet. Apex sees a Neutral BTC cycle state, while GDI Pulse is 56 (neutral). The system therefore treats the environment as pressured, not confirmed risk-off.

What Apex has tested on Bitcoin
- DISCOVEREDBitcoin after a Fed rate hike
Across 21 hike days from 2015 to 2026 (Fed target rate steps up), Bitcoin was up only 35 % of the time 5 and 20 trading days later against a 56–58 % baseline, median −1.7 % and −1.9 % against +0.7 % and +1.3 %. The half-… - FALLENBTC up next day under three simultaneous conditions
Real rate above 2%, equities down and bonds down on the same day: BTC up 66% of the time the next day against 50% baseline (n=85). Passes the half-split test. Fell on 11 Sep only because Bonferroni over 276 tests demands… - CONFIRMEDThe deeper the equity fall, the tighter bitcoin follows stocks
BTC's correlation with equities rises monotonically through the drawdown bands: +0.02, +0.12, +0.14, +0.24. The gold link does not. - DISCOVEREDBitcoin's gold link at a five-year high — and it is bitcoin that moved
BTC against gold stands at +0.65 on 60 days, higher than 99.8% of readings since 2021. Meanwhile Nasdaq against gold fell from +0.55 to +0.22 — they went opposite ways, so it is not the whole market correlating more. - IN SHADOWFlight to safety signals a turn
When equities fall on the same day gold AND bonds rise, Nasdaq is up 67.6% of the time over the next two days against 55.6% otherwise. ETH follows (+11.8 pp), BTC barely (+7.7 pp), SOL not at all. - CONFIRMEDSOL has its own memecoin link
After BTC is removed from both sides, SOL co-moves with Solana memecoins (BONK, WIF, BOME) at +0.46 against +0.30 for memecoins on other chains. ETH as placebo shows the opposite — no such overweight. - DISCOVEREDBottom-fishing BTC
BTC at a 20-day low, bought and held one day: 60.6% over break-even against a 50.1% baseline, median +0.52%, n=142. Above its yearly baseline in 6 of 6 years. One of 19 candidates tested together; the other 18 fell. - IN SHADOWBTC beta through altcoins
WLFI, XRP and SOL are the same bet: BTC direction through an altcoin. The only positive line in the crypto book (54%, +138), but the drift control failed on hourly data. - FALLENBTC moves as an entry for SOL/XRP/ETH
SOL, XRP and ETH move the same way as BTC on 80–95% of days, in every session window. But when BTC has first crossed ±0.3/0.5/1% since 00:00 UTC, the altcoin has already moved 1.5–2× as much, and the rest of the day sits… - FALLENThe debasement thesis
Thesis: high inflation is bullish for crypto. Three independent measurements say not yet: 89 % of the 2026 rise in nominal yields was real rate (+50 bp) rather than inflation expectation (+6 bp); the real rate sat near i…

Bitcoin explained
- How do real interest rates affect Bitcoin?
- Apex measured Bitcoin against the US 10-year real rate through 2026, when the real rate reached its highest level since 2003. Over the 120 days measured in late August 2026 the relationship was negative (rolling correlation about −0.28): higher real rates, weaker Bitcoin — the same direction as gold and long-duration equities, but weaker than gold's. It is a measured relationship, not a law; the research page shows the sample and the tests.
- Does Bitcoin trade like gold or like a stock?
- Both, depending on the regime. Apex's 60-day correlation between Bitcoin and gold reached a five-year high in 2026 while the correlation with the Nasdaq fell — the current value is on the research card linked below. But across the worst equity-market days in the sample, Bitcoin fell about 1.9 % on average while gold barely moved — the gold link disappeared exactly when it mattered. Apex therefore tracks Bitcoin's character on both axes and labels the current one on this page.
- Is high inflation bullish for Bitcoin?
- Not so far in the data. Apex tested the debasement thesis — that high inflation drives money into Bitcoin — three ways in 2026 and it failed each time: most of the year's rise in yields was real rate, not inflation expectation, and Bitcoin fell with rising real rates. The finding is kept on the research page as FALLEN, with what would revive it.
- Why is Bitcoin up or down today?
- The section 'Why is Bitcoin moving today' above is regenerated from Apex's daily read: how Bitcoin moved against the Nasdaq and gold in the last session decides whether it traded as a risk asset or as money. The move is data; the cause is the intelligence.
